The Chicago Bears have managed to put together a fairly intriguing new coaching staff that blends both old and new school ways of thinking.

The next step for them will be doing all in their power to assemble a strong enough roster to finally break through the crowded NFC into the playoffs. One thing that has been proven this past year? They’re going to need a team that can dominate the line of scrimmage and play under control. For that they need smart, conditioned and tough players. Can GM Ryan Pace fulfill this requirement. He has the resources, now it’s about execution.

1st Round

57. Pace has had two productive drafts in 2016 and 2017. He’s at least built a foundation to work off of but this 2018 class has to hit if the Bears are going to be a legitimate playoff contender next season. Often in such cases it might be better to play it safe. The past three times Pace has taken calculated home run swings on Kevin White, Leonard Floyd and Mitch Trubisky. All of them athlete with huge upside but also huge risk. Perhaps this time he just gets the best football player.
That unequivocally is Quenton Nelson. Make no mistake. This young man is the best overall prospect in the draft. The only reason he lasts to this pick is because he’s a guard and guards almost never go in the top five. With a rush of quarterbacks, he’ll get pushed down the board. Chicago should be thankful. Nelson is a brute in every sense of the word. He mauls defenders with power and nastiness while also showcasing quick feet and awareness in pass protection.
. OG. Notre Dame. Quenton Nelson . 1. player
