Houston Cougars quarterback Kyle Allen is making the jump to the NFL, declaring his intentions to enter the 2018 NFL Draft…

A deep class of quarterbacks in the 2018 NFL Draft class got a little deeper with the announcement of Houston’s Kyle Allen, who is leaving his final year of collegiate eligibility on the table and making the leap to the pros.

Many of you may be wondering, “Who the heck is Kyle Allen?”

Why would this guy declare for the draft?

Those would be excellent questions.

Unless you remember Allen from his days at Texas A&M, or unless you follow the recruiting trail really closely, you probably won’t know who this guy is at all.

The transfer athlete and former Aggie was only a member of Houston for five games, and ended up completing 76.2 percent of his passes.

The former five-star prospect and the heir apparent to Johnny Manziel has had a very…interesting collegiate career. He was benched this season at Houston, not exactly a ringing endorsement for his potential future employers in the NFL, but some team may be willing to take a shot on him for his big arm.

Who knows?

I suppose at some point or another, Allen feels he has shown enough potential and upside that he thinks this is the best decision rather than going back to college and competing another year with the quarterbacks at Houston.

This is a pre-draft decision I really don’t get, because I don’t feel we’ve seen enough from the player to make a professional determination on him. You have to really go back to his tape at Texas A&M to get a clearer idea of what he’s capable of being as a full-time player, because we just didn’t see it this year at Houston.
