There’s been a growing feeling that something just isn’t right with New York Giants cornerback Eli Apple. He’s gotten himself into trouble a lot lately.

No one is entirely sure what the deal is regarding the former first round pick. Things seemed to be progressing for him as a rookie last season. Then all of sudden things went off the rails in 2017. Multiple reports have surfaced regarding his poor attitude in the locker room. Not only was he getting into confrontations with teammates, but also the coaches too. This was why he was repeatedly suspended for “conduct detrimental to the team.”

Teammate Landon Collins said in reference to the issues that he “has to grow up.” No doubt this message has not gotten through to Apple himself. It seems like the longer this has gone on, the worse it continues to get. Things may have reached a crisis point recently when the cornerback took to Twitter and unleashed a emotionally-fueled rant against his critics. One that clearly showed a window into his frustrated and darkened psyche.

Even Odell Beckham tried to calm him down

One knows it’s bad when a teammate actually takes to Twitter to stop him from saying something he might regret. How bad must it be when that teammate is Odell Beckham Jr.? Everybody knows that OBJ isn’t exactly the poster child for emotional stability. So when he’s the one reaching out to Apple trying to stop him from going too far, it’s clearly a bad situation. The rant was filled with all sorts of hatred, both for critics and for himself it seems. Apple seems like a player who has become resigned to playing for his own aims rather than the team or the fans.

Odds are his position on the roster is very much in doubt. GM Dave Gettleman is a no-nonsense type of guy. If he senses a me-first player who will cause problems, he won’t hesitate to cut them. This rant could be the final nail in the coffin for Apple.
