When was the last time O.J. Simpson heard his name mentioned in connection to football? Aside from historians, one would have to go back to the early 1990s.

It’s so easy to forget a man who was acquitted of double-murder charges involving his late ex-wife and later went to prison on kidnapping charges was once upon a time one of the greatest running backs in NFL history. The man ran for 11,236 yards in his career, doing most of his damage back when seasons were only 14 games long. He was the one thing that made Buffalo Bills football fun to watch for most of the 1970s.

The man was the first to crack 2,000 yards rushing in a season in 1973 and scored 23 touchdowns in 1975. He was a legend by the time he retired in 1980. Everybody knew who “the Juice” was. Then in 1994 that aura of invincibility was shattered. For the next two decades he spent his time either in a court room or prison. The past year though he was granted parole.

Now it seems he’s decided to celebrate his freedom and the success of his beloved Bills in sunny Las Vegas.

Simpson certainly caused a social media uproar

Up until recently Simpson had stayed out of the public eye. However, with the Bills in the playoffs for the first time since 1999 he couldn’t resist going out to celebrate. It seems the fabled “Bills Mafia” fans had no problem embracing the opportunity. Initially there was a belief that Simpson was actually at the game down in Jacksonville but that was later debunked. He currently lives in Vegas, so that would explain the initial confusion.

It’s hard to say what sort of fortune this will give the Bills in their game against the Jaguars. Perhaps it’s best just to embrace this as another wild moment in an already crazy playoff atmosphere.
