#3:  Chicago Bears

In terms of a favorable overall situation, the Bears might have everyone else beat. They have a top 10 defense in place and a stud backfield led by Pro Bowler Jordan Howard and the electric Tarik Cohen. They also have an intriguing young quarterback now in Mitch Trubisky who looks like he could take a giant step forward with the right coaching. The only caveat is that coach would not have say over the final roster. That power will remain with GM Ryan Pace. Given how well he worked with John Fox though, it shouldn’t be a huge deal.

#2:  Detroit Lions

Few things attract coaches more to a job than a franchise quarterback. Matthew Stafford continues to be eternally underrated in the eyes of the NFL. He is set to turn 30-years old this year and is coming off the most efficient season of his career (4,446 yards, 29 TDs, 10 INTs). The challenge for the next head coach will be two-fold:  get more out of the running game and improve the defense. The tricky part with this job is any coach will be asked by ownership to retain the current offensive staff. That could make things difficult.

#1:  Indianapolis Colts

They may rank tops but that’s a tenuous honor. Everything about the Colts’ position here is that Andrew Luck returns 100% healthy from his nagging shoulder problem this past year. If that’s the case than any coach will instantly inherit a franchise quarterback in his prime. At that point all they’d have to do is get more from the defense and this team will be instant contenders in the AFC. GM Chris Ballard also must look to improve the pass protection on the offensive line. It’s arguably the easiest job any coach could want.
