2018 NFL Draft: Roquan Smith, Baker Mayfield, others stand out
Sony Michel, Running Back, Georgia
Sony Michel may have had a critical fumble in this game against Oklahoma, but he more than made up for it in a variety of other ways, including his big time run in the second overtime period to send Georgia to the title game:
His big run at the end of the game was a thing of beauty, as he took the direct snap and waited patiently for his blocks on the outside to develop.
Michel showed off his great combination of pass catching ability, suddenness, speed, and vision in this one. All of the reasons why he’s considered a potential day two pick and steal in that range.
With 222 yards of total offense in this game and 16.5 yards per carry to go along with 10.1 yards per reception, Michel proved what kind of all-around back he can be at the next level and how he’s capable of dominating a game with only 15 touches on offense.
With four total touchdowns in this game, including this burst of pure electric speed…
…Michel has set the bar high for what we can expect against Alabama. His performance in this game against Oklahoma reminded me a bit of what Alvin Kamara has been doing with the New Orleans Saints, but I think Michel is a better pure running back at this point.
