Philadelphia Eagles: Nick Foles’ history vs Oakland
The Eagles and Nick Foles are ready for a rematch against his favorite opponent
Philadelphia can clinch the number one seed if Nick Foles can work his magic against the Oakland Raiders at home on Christmas Day. Foles isn’t the MVP candidate Carson Wentz was prior to his knee injury, but his history against Oakland is unprecedented.
On Nov. 3, 2013, Foles took the Eagles to Oakland and secured a 49-20 victory. Passing for 406 yards, Foles found LeSean McCoy, DeSean Jackson, Brent Celek, Zach Ertz, and Riley Cooper (three times) for seven touchdowns to tie the all-time single-game passing touchdown record. Joining the likes of Y.A. Tittle and Peyton Manning, Foles was on his way to stardom.
Much has changed since then, including Foles being traded to the then St. Louis Rams for Sam Bradford and a swap of draft picks. Foles was a disappointment for the Rams and was signed by his former coach Andy Reid and Kansas City after the Rams moved on.
Things have ironically come full circle for Foles as he replaces the highest Eagles draft pick since Donovan McNabb.
Oakland’s defense is rated among the worst football with a DVOA (Defense-adjusted Value Over Average) of 12.9% compared to Jacksonville’s league-best -20.1%. Missing top rookies Gareon Conley and Obi Melifonwu Foles and the Eagles offense could be in for a very merry Christmas in South Philadelphia.
Philadelphia has won two of their last three games against Oakland by a combined score of 81-53. Oakland must win Monday Night to keep their marginal playoff hopes alive in a crowded AFC West.
