Taking a look at some of the potential destinations for Miami Dolphins quarterback Ryan Tannehill if he and the team part ways…

As intriguing as the NFL offseason is anyway, the 2018 offseason will be even more fascinating due to the unprecedented amount of turnover that is expected to happen at the quarterback position.

One name to watch this offseason will be Ryan Tannehill of the Miami Dolphins, a former first round pick in 2012 whose career has been plagued by injuries.

The Dolphins signed Tannehill to a four-year, $77 million extension at the end of his rookie contract, and with an out at the end of the 2017 season and only $4.6 million in dead money, will they risk their success next season on his health?

They just might.

The Dolphins have $30.3 million against the cap this year at the quarterback position between Tannehill and Jay Cutler, who hasn’t played badly at all in his first season reunited with Adam Gase.

Cutler could be the more economically responsible option at this point, despite the fact that he’s 34 years old. The Dolphins could try and re-sign him for a couple more seasons at a fraction of the cost of Tannehill, who averages around $20 million per season on his current deal.

If Tannehill and the Dolphins part ways at the end of this season, he will definitely have suitors, but perhaps suitors who are of the ‘cautiously optimistic’ variety.

Here are a few teams that might make sense for Tannehill:

1. Arizona Cardinals

Bruce Arians is the quarterback whisperer, and he’s done extremely well (at least for a couple of seasons) with another former high draft pick that has had his share of injuries in Carson Palmer.

The Cardinals have to be looking to make a change at the quarterback position this offseason, and Tannehill is someone that could benefit greatly from working with someone like Arians, who could really help him realize his potential.

2. Jacksonville Jaguars

The Jaguars are more than likely going to start from scratch at quarterback this offseason, but they appear poised to be the team that goes ‘all-in’ on some veteran options. This move would make sense from a talent perspective, and if Tannehill’s healthy, he’s worth a gamble for Jacksonville.

This also makes sense from Tannehill’s perspective, as he and his family have invested a lot in their Florida home. Not that Tannehill couldn’t put his family up in a new city, but at least with Jacksonville, he wouldn’t have to go that far.

This, to me, would be a better option for the Jaguars than Eli Manning.

3. Denver Broncos

The Denver Broncos don’t have their quarterback position settled by any means, and they have something of a connection to Tannehill in head coach Vance Joseph.

If Joseph is retained, he and John Elway could make an enticing pitch to Tannehill to join a team that has one of the best defenses in the league.

This would also add some more fun fuel to the rivalry between Elway and Dolphins head coach Adam Gase.
