Do people really understand the scope of what the Los Angeles Chargers are doing right now? Given the limited media attention, it doesn’t seem so.

Remember that four games makes up a full quarter of an NFL season these days. If a team loses their first four, as the Chargers did this year that means they must win 10 of the 12 remaining to have a reasonable shot at making the playoffs. So many things have to go right in this sort of situation. Of course it starts with winning games but also the rest of the division has to cooperate as well.

Injuries have to lighten up. A few unexpected breaks of good fortune are also needed. It doesn’t happen often in this league. Yet with three games left to play it’s happening. The Chargers are the hottest team in football and are blowing opponents out now. They’re carrying themselves with a certain swagger that can be felt from miles away.

They’re also on the verge of some crazy history.

The best part is these Chargers look like more than a momentum team

What’s different about this particular team is the composition. Most of the time a team who starts bad is typically an average team. Turnarounds are brought on more by a stroke of good fortune and then momentum. In this case there is plenty of that but also talent on the Chargers’ side. They have playmakers on both sides of the ball that can impact games.

Of course there is Philip Rivers on offense but Keenan Allen has become a superstar at wide receiver with Tyrell Williams coming into his own too. Melvin Gordon at running back and Hunter Henry at tight end? Not a bad group. Then there’s the defense with Joey Bosa and Melvin Ingram leading that pass rush. Not to mention Casey Heyward, one of the best corners in the NFL.

This team is built to win in the playoffs. If they are able to finish what they’ve started over the past couple months, this is a group that nobody in the AFC wants to see come January.
