The Chicago Bears off-season plans for 2018 will boil down to three simple things. Or rather three simple positions that they have to fill.

The first will be the head coaching job. John Fox had three years to get some progress out of this new, young roster and hasn’t cut it. He’ll use plenty of excuses but the facts are the job hasn’t been done. So the time has come to find somebody who will.

Then there are the wide receivers. Honestly the Bears don’t have any. None that could be considered a long-term weapon for a young quarterback Mitch Trubisky. That can’t stand if they want the young draft pick to excel moving forward.

Last but not least is the pass rush. Everybody is hurt:  Leonard Floyd, Pernell McPhee, Willie Young. This team is painfully thin at a critical position. If they want any prayer of challenging in the NFC, that’s a position they need to get right. So what are some bold possibilities for them?

Head Coach:  Dabo Swinney

Don’t look now but Swinney is threatening to overtake Nick Saban as the kingpin of college football. He’s got Clemson in the college playoff for the third-straight year, this time without Deshaun Watson. If they somehow win another championship, Swinney will be the MFIC in the NCAA world. It will also open questions about whether it’s time for him to try the NFL. That will be interesting since Swinney has never once coached at the pro level in his career.

So yeah it would be a bold move to go get him. At the same time Swinney has proven a few things. He’s got a tremendous eye for talent. Clemson has become a hot bed for NFL prospects since he took over a few years back. Watson proves that he understands how to cultivate quarterbacks and at the same time doesn’t ignore the defense either. The Tigers have one of the best in 2017. He motivates and understands how to coach under pressure.
