New York Giants owner John Mara has an obvious head coach candidate in New England’s Josh McDaniels

New York Giants owner John Mara had seen enough from head coach Ben McAdoo after a 2-9 start to their season. Mired in miscommunication, locker room distrust, and the handling of Eli Manning the Giants are ready for a new face to the franchise.

While he’s certainly not a new face to NFL fans New England Patriots offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels would be a breath of fresh air in New York. Having worked alongside Bill Belichick for over a decade McDaniels knows how to take an organization striving for a new direction and culture.

Likely to have a top-three pick in the 2018 NFL Draft New York will look closely at the incoming quarterback class. Originally projected to be one of the best classes in recent years, more questions than answers remain with some of the top prospects. Sam Darnold, Josh Allen, Josh Rosen, Lamar Jackson, and Baker Mayfield have shown first-round potential but each has serious questions coming out of college.

More from NFL Hot Takes

Owner John Mara looks around the NFL and sees the Los Angeles Rams and division rival Philadelphia Eagles building their organization around a young quarterback. Philadelphia has two former NFL quarterbacks running their offense and a rising star in quarterback coach John DeFilippo working with Carson Wentz. Los Angeles found an innovator in Sean McVay to grow Jared Goff into the first round talent he was tasked with being.

New York’s next head coach should be one that can develop a quarterback into the next Goff and Wentz.

McDaniels never had a fair shot in Denver with the likes of Jay Cutler, Kyle Orton, Chris Simms, and Tim Tebow. With the freedom to pick his own guy out of a crop of talented college quarterbacks, McDaniels has the tools to succeed in New York.

If the Giants feel Eli Manning can continue to be their franchise quarterback for at least another year, McDaniels can be trusted in running an offense centered around Saquon Barkley.
