60. What a career turnaround for Pat Shurmur. Thinks hit rock bottom for him as head coach in Cleveland. From there he was lost in the shuffle of a difficult run with the Eagles under Chip Kelly. He expected to be a tight ends coach in Minnesota last year but was promoted midseason by Mike Zimmer to become offensive coordinator. Now he’s got Case Keenum playing like an All-Pro and the Vikings offense clicking on all cylinders. It’s possible he’s learned some valuable lessons from the missteps in Cleveland and Philadelphia.. New Orleans. Pete Carmichael Jr. . 5. player. 15. There really isn’t much left for Pete Carmichael Jr. to accomplish as an offensive coordinator. Multiple times he’s helped construct and produce a #1 NFL offense in New Orleans, sometimes with him being the one to call plays and sometimes head coach Sean Payton. That speaks to his ability to organize and develop his players. Sure having Drew Brees always helps but the fact is Brees wouldn’t be where he is today without Carmichael. That offensive success is alluring but a question to ask is if he’s been this good for so long, why hasn’t he gotten a shot already?. OC
6. player. 51. One-year coordinators are always a roll of the dice. It’s difficult at that point to ascertain whether their success was just initial surprise against opponents or if they’re the real deal. Matt Lafleur finds himself in that situation. His run as Rams offensive coordinator in 2017 has been spectacular, but how much of it is thanks to him and how much is head coach Sean McVay? It’s a tough call. At the same time Lafleur has enjoyed an outstanding run over the past decade as a quarterbacks coach. Matt Ryan, Robert Griffin III and Matt Schaub all had career years thanks to his efforts.. OC.
