Eli Manning to the Jaguars makes too much sense
Can Eli Manning revive his career with the help of an old friend?
After Ben McAdoo informed Eli Manning the organization wished to give the younger quarterbacks an opportunity to start the rumor mill has been churning nonstop.
Perhaps the biggest rumor as to where Manning could land is with his former head coach Tom Coughlin, the President of the Jacksonville Jaguars. Considering the Jaguars dominant defense and questionable quarterback play the fit seems too good to be true.
Jacksonville owes Blake Bortles nothing next year if they decide to forgo his fifth-year option. While the team did announce they would carry it onto his rookie deal they can move on without paying Bortles another penny this offseason.
Manning has a modest salary cap hit next year around $16 million, well worth the value and perfect for the Jaguars budget. Despite spending big on defense in free agency the Jaguars project to have $35 million available for free agency.
His jersey can be custom built on the NFL Shop website for those willing to shell out big bucks early.
If Jacksonville opts to pay Kirk Cousins, Sam Bradford, or Teddy Bridgewater Manning will still have options. Cleveland shouldn’t think twice about the two-time Super Bowl MVP and neither should the New York Jets just across the building from Manning’s current club.
It’ll be unusual to see Manning wearing another jersey, but his time in New York is clearly coming to an end. Even though McAdoo is likely gone after this year there’s no coming back from what transpired this week between the franchise quarterback and his club.
