Colorado State’s Michael Gallup is a prospect to know
Colorado State wide receiver Michael Gallup doesn’t get as much national notoriety as James Washington or others, but he is a big time playmaker…
Two straight 1,000-plus yard seasons. Biletnikoff Award finalist. 21 touchdowns in two years.
Are we talking about James Washington? Calvin Ridley? Anthony Miller?
No, we’re talking about one of the best and one of the most underrated wide receivers in college football, Michael Gallup.
Gallup was recently named a top three finalist for the Biletnikoff Award as the nation’s best wide receiver, and when you watch this guy work on a weekly basis, it’s no wonder why.
After spending 2014-15 at Butler County Community College in Kansas, Gallup accepted an offer to play for the Rams at Colorado State, where he has emerged as a legitimate NFL prospect.
He doesn’t have the same type of overall skillset, but his build reminds me a lot of Amari Cooper, and the way he’s able to make plays in the short, intermediate, and deep passing game remind me a little bit of what we saw from Cooper.
There were many who questioned Cooper’s timed speed coming out of Alabama, but he proved doubters wrong and I think Gallup is going to face something pretty similar.
Dealing with iffy quarterback play — at best — at Colorado State, Gallup has found ways to be productive every single game and has provided his quarterback with an extremely reliable target:

Gallup has accepted an invitation to the Senior Bowl in January, where he will be able to showcase his skills against some of the best competition in the country. That’s not a small ordeal for someone like Gallup, who doesn’t exactly get a whole slice of the national spotlight at Colorado State.
What really stands out about Gallup when you watch him play is not necessarily big time speed but toughness over the middle, and an ability to make adjustments on the football.
He has the ability to make those big plays you covet in a wide receiver prospect downfield, but also does all of the little things really well. This is a player that I think is going to really turn some heads in the coming months as we get closer to NFL Draft season.
