2018 NFL Draft: Ranking the top five eligible quarterback prospects
3. Josh Rosen, UCLA
Josh Rosen to me is the most pro-ready quarterback in this year’s draft. That doesn’t mean I think he’s the top overall player at the position, but I think when you look at these quarterbacks in the 1-4 spots, they are almost interchangable as to what one is on top.
Rosen is a guy who executes a pro-style offense already to near-perfection. He is obviously very polished in terms of his technique as a quarterback, and his mechanics will excite NFL scouts and coaches who are looking for an immediate starter at the next level.
Rosen is not immune to mistakes, however, and can be careless with the football just like anyone else in this class, but his ball placement is among the best you will see.
He puts great zip on throws when he needs to, and can drop the ball with perfect touch deep downfield as well.
The great thing about Rosen, if you’re an NFL team looking to hire him, is that he’s been doing this for a few years now. It’s not like he’s just burst onto the scene. Rosen has been consistently proving himself to be not only a capable NFL-style quarterback, but he’s getting better every year and showing his upside and potential.
The major concerns with Rosen at this point are injury related or attitude related, and if you ask him, he doesn’t seem too concerned about the latter.
The injury concerns are something to look into for NFL teams, as will the personal evaluations. There have been rumors that Rosen won’t be able to get along with NFL coordinators for a long time, for whatever reasons.
That’s tough to really know without ever having talked to the guy, so perhaps more on that will come about in the coming months.
