If time has proven anything, it’s that Denver Broncos GM John Elway has no fear making the bold decisions, especially when it comes to the coaching staff.

He ushered out Josh McDaniels before his second season was even over. He fired John Fox despite him finishing with a 12-4 season in 2014. It’s hard to argue with his decisions up to this points as each yielded better results than the last. Fox helped make the team a winner. Gary Kubiak turned it into a Super Bowl champion. However, one thing Elway may not have been prepared for was the abrupt resignation of Kubiak.

This forced him to scramble in finding a replacement. Not long after that he selected Miami Dolphins defensive coordinator Vance Joseph as the successor. The choice was met with mixed reactions. Some thought it was a quality choice as Joseph was an up-and-coming young coach. Others felt he was too inexperienced and needed seasoning.

Time has proven the pessimists correct.

Elway may not wait to correct the perceived Joseph error

Offensive coordinator Mike McCoy is already gone, having been deemed the scapegoat for an offense that continues to underachieve since Peyton Manning retired last year. However, Matt Miller of Bleacher Report and others think that might not be the end of it. Elway may look to simply cut his losses next off-season and start fresh with another new staff.

"“With Mike McCoy out in Denver and John Elway calling the team “soft,” I’m wondering if we’re about to see a major shakeup with the Broncos. Elway’s hand-picked head coach, Gary Kubiak, retired due to health reasons after last season, and the choice to hire Vance Joseph seemed more sentimental than a pick made to secure the future of a team that needed serious help offensively.”"

It sounds crazy to think about. This would mark the third head coaching change for the Broncos in four years. It’s difficult to maintain a winning culture that way. At the same time Elway is not one to linger on things if he thought it was a mistake. The final six games of the season will likely determine whether this move comes to pass or not.
