Dallas Cowboys 2018 Mock Draft: Four Rounds
By Brady Lunt
Second Round – Anthony Averett, DB, Alabama
Last offseason the Cowboys saw their secondary lose four starters/impact players. Starting safety Barry Church signed with the Jaguars and backup safety J.J. Wilcox signed with Pittsburgh. Starting cornerbacks Brandon Carr and Morris Claiborne signed with the Baltimore Ravens and New York Jets, respectively. It signaled a big-time transition for Dallas, as they looked to fill those massive holes. By the end of the 2017 NFL Draft, they had spent four of their nine draft picks to do just that.

Second round pick Chidobe Awuzie hasn’t made much of an impact due to injury and sixth-round pick Marquez White is currently on the practice squad. However, third-round pick Jourdan Lewis has been playing incredible and appeared to be the best cornerback on the roster. Sixth-round safety Xavier Woods has also been making a name for himself and may be the starter by seasons end. Despite all of these additions, the Cowboys shouldn’t be content. They need to find another impact corner to solidify the entire secondary.
Anthony Averett is the next in a long line of Alabama cornerbacks to succeed in the NFL. He is one of the classes top cornerbacks in zone coverage, but has demonstrated impressive ability in man coverage. He’s a tremendous athlete, who can read and react quickly. He’s sticky in man coverage and has the size to play on the outside. He gives the Cowboys a big cornerback that can grow in this young secondary.
