2018 NFL Draft Calvin Ridley
TUSCALOOSA, AL – NOVEMBER 18: Calvin Ridley /

Calvin Ridley (WR – Alabama) vs. Auburn

Calvin Ridley is a perfect example of why a wide receiver prospect can’t be judged on production at the college level. The Alabama wideout plays in a run-first offense with an inaccurate quarterback throwing him the football. The NFL won’t hold this against him and there’s a chance Ridley will be the first wide receiver off the board in the 2018 NFL Draft.

Ridley’s top competition for that honor is Courtland Sutton of SMU. Sutton is a junior as well, but has already said he’s entering the 2018 NFL Draft. Ridley is likely to join him and will create a debate leading up to the draft as to who the better prospect is.

Both Alabama and Auburn rely heavily on the ground game, but the two defenses have excelled at stopping the run. The winner will likely be the team that can create balance on offense and hit a big play or two through the air. As the best receiver on the field, Calvin Ridley is the prospect who can do just that. Over the past two weeks, he’s caught three passes of at least 60 yards. If even one of these long plays to Ridley connects, it could be the difference in the game.

The 82nd Iron Bowl is for more than just bragging rights as the winner will take on Georgia for the SEC championship and very likely a spot in the College Football Playoff.

If the Crimson Tide are going to make it four-in-a-row over their in-state rival, Calvin Ridley is going to have to make an impact. A solid finish to his career could be enough to land Ridley in the top 10 of the 2018 NFL Draft.
