#4:  Pat Shurmur (Vikings offensive coordinator)

Undoubtedly Shurmur deserves Comeback Coach of the Year honors. At one point in time he was a rising star in Philadelphia, then he crashed and burned in Cleveland. He was part of the Chip Kelly run that ended poorly in Philadelphia again and was relegated to tight ends coach in Minnesota. Then Norv Turner resigned and he got promoted. Sensing what might be his last chance, Shurmur has coached out of his mind, getting career bests out of Sam Bradford in 2016 and Case Keenum in 2017.

#5:  Matt Patricia (Patriots defensive coordinator)

Things did not start well for the Patriots defense this season and some people started blaming Patricia for it. Sure, blame the guy with two Super Bowl rings. It couldn’t possibly be a massive turnover on the roster and the players not being used to each other. Turns out it was the latter. New England has not given up more than 17 points in a game since the beginning of October. They’ve held Matt Ryan and Derek Carr to single digits. That is how good Patricia is.

#6:  Todd Wash (Jaguars defensive coordinator)

Easily the biggest story of this season is the turnaround of the Jacksonville Jaguars. A team that couldn’t even stiff .500 the past half decade is suddenly 7-3 and hurtling towards the playoffs. Leading the way is a young, fast and athletic defense that is suffocating opponents each week. The architect of this success is Todd Wash. He took over a unit that was 24th overall in 2015 and got them to 6th in 2016. Now they’re 1st.  If this keeps up it will be hard to ignore Wash.
