Josh Rosen will transition quickly to the NFL game
2018 NFL Draft: UCLA quarterback Josh Rosen is primed for a quick, successful transition to the NFL. Here are a few reasons why…
For quarterback needy teams in the 2018 NFL Draft, there may not be many things more important than how quickly a prospect can make the jump from the college level to the professional level. Josh Rosen is going to make the transition quickly, which could lead to him being the first quarterback selected in this year’s class.
Rosen, now in his third season with UCLA, is enjoying the best season of his collegiate career statistically and proving to NFL scouts that he will be a difference maker from day one whenever he’s drafted.
Of course, like any prospect, it’s going to be important for Rosen to have a strong cast around him, but even if he doesn’t right away, I think this is the type of player that can eventually elevate the level of play of the teammates around him.
We’re already seeing some of that at UCLA.
Rosen doesn’t have the best supporting cast with the Bruins right now, but what he really has going for him is the presence and tutelage of Jedd Fisch, the current interim head coach, offensive coordinator, and quarterbacks coach at UCLA.
With Fisch leading and guiding him, Rosen has emerged as the most pro-ready quarterback in the country.
Not many quarterbacks in college are taking snaps under center, taking five- and seven-step drops, and truly operating a pro-style passing attack.
Rosen is.
Rosen has experience operating the pro-style attack teams are utilizing in the NFL today, and you see the fruits of his hard work off the field when he steps out onto it.
Rosen is very aware of the criticism of him as a human being and how outspoken he is on certain things, but when he gets to interview with NFL teams, I think they are going to be blown away by what he does in film study and on the chalk board.

This is a player that clearly knows what matchups to exploit, and how to attack defenses week after week. He operates UCLAs offense so well, and while he hasn’t been error-free this season, he has made enough big time throws to convince me that he’s going to be an absolute stud in the NFL.
And some of Rosen’s big time throws aren’t necessarily his accurate deep balls. Some of his best throws look so easy when you watch his game tape, but they are very difficult throws in all reality.
This is a young player that already understands so many things about the game of football that most young players have to be taught from scratch when they get to the big leagues. Rosen is going to be a guy that NFL coaches can work with almost like a young veteran player because he has worked with NFL coaches already at UCLA.
That’s a huge advantage for him going forward, and it wouldn’t surprise me in the least to see Rosen become the most coveted quarterback in this year’s class because every physical and intangible football tool is there.
Teams will have to calculate whether or not they think Rosen is a risky prospect in terms of his personality, but that seems foolish to me. This guy is the real deal, and he’s proving how much he really does love the game by going out every week and putting these types of performances on tape.
