Adam Gase Suddenly In Danger After Monday Night Meltdown
By Erik Lambert
Adam Gase was expected to be the man who could finally get the Miami Dolphins over the hump after years of near playoff misses.
That at least he was able to accomplish. Miami made the playoffs for the first time in eight years in 2016. Unfortunately that seems to have been their peak. Already age and injury have begun to eat away at the Dolphins core and Gase is having a harder and harder time holding it together. Things came to a head in Carolina. After a rough loss the week before against Oakland, Gase needs a big performance from his team to save their season.
Instead they ran into a Panthers team that has rediscovered the form they had two years ago reaching the Super Bowl. The offense wasn’t bad on the night, but the defense was another story. After being a strength for the team last year, the Dolphins unit has collapsed in on itself this season. Cam Newton and his array of weapons had their way with them all night.
Gase job security takes a big hit with another lopsided loss
Newton threw four touchdowns on the night. Carolina also rushed for two others. Miami could not pressure the quarterback at all. Cameron Wake and Ndamukong Suh were practically invisible. This marks the third time in nine games the Dolphins have lost by at least 20 points and fourth time by at least 14. They’ve been especially exposed by more physical teams like Baltimore, New Orleans and now Carolina.
Does Gase deserve all the blame for this? Not entirely. The team isn’t dead yet. They’re 4-5. There’s still time to rescue the season. Still the warning signs grow more disturbing by the week. Gase’s team appears to be slowly losing their will to fight. If the downward trend isn’t slowed, could this mean the head coach gets the boot after just two seasons? Only time will tell.
