Martavis Bryant Discussion: Should the Steelers make a move?
Should the Pittsburgh Steelers trade Martavis Bryant to a contender?
Martavis Bryant has been in the news for all the wrong reasons this season for Pittsburgh. His latest comments about wanting to be traded have left him on the scout team and off the roster for this Sunday’s game against the Detroit Lions.
Pittsburgh head coach Mike Tomlin has said Bryant is not on the trade block, but with these recent events the Steelers should consider taking offers.
The NFL Mocks staff had a lengthy conversation and debated whether or not the Steelers should not only trade Bryant, but if he should go to a conference rival with whom he could get back at the Steelers in the playoffs.

Bears trade for a WR… Dontrelle Inman for a 7
Eric
I don’t see why they couldn’t send Pittsburgh a draft pick for Bryant. I know Pittsburgh says they won’t trade but we all know that tune will change for the right amount of compensation.
George
That’s Ryan Pace for you
Andrew
Martavis Bryant not playing Sunday vs lions, demoted to scout team
Eric
Should Ryan Pace recant his recent trade? I mean, Bryant is bait in the water at this point.
Sayre
Would be fun to see Buffalo get Bryant
Could you see Pats floating a late-round pick for him?
Sayre
I couldn’t. I think if the Pats make a trade it’ll be on defense
Eric
How fast does Pittsburgh hang up the phone on Baltimore if they inquire about him?
George
They never answer it
Eric
What about KC?
Brady
San Fran?

George
Nope
Sayre
KC would be interesting
George
KC won’t want to meet him in the AFC championship
Eric
If I’m Martavis, I’ll beg to stay in Pittsburgh before SF
Sayre
Alex (Smith) has been airing it out
George
Pittsburgh that is, wouldn’t want to see him and Tyreek Hill in the AFC playoffs
Eric
Chiefs can make things really interesting with his acquisition
Sayre
He’s cheap enough the Chiefs could do it for a rental. They are short a 1st rounder next year already though
Ryan
He’s not going anywhere in the AFC
Eric
Why not?
Henry
Imagine San Fran with Kirk Cousins, Saquon Barkley, and Martavis Bryant?!
Eric
Pittsburgh is ballsy enough to do it
George
Kansas City knows he’s good, they don’t want to see him again against their secondary

Dallas?
Ryan
One of Ben Roethlisberger’s last stands, AFC is open enough for them to make a play for a Super Bowl, but they don’t have a secondary
Eric
Isn’t Pittsburgh in the top five in pass defense? They had enough of a secondary to bottle up Kelce and Hill. I don’t think they are afraid of Bryant. Let’s keep in mind he’s good but he’s never proven to be a #1 guy before
Ryan
They would’ve cut him if they didn’t think he had talent when he got suspended a second time.
Eric
Well they also didn’t know what they had with Juju plus they were dealing with Bell’s holdout
Ryan
They’re also 20th in rush defense and that’s their issue
Andrew
Yea he would never go to Baltimore in a trade, Bills are interesting
Eric
Steelers have had KC’s number in recent years. I don’t think they are afraid of a guy like Bryant who has not proven he could be “the guy” without Antonio Brown or Ben Roethlisberger.
Andrew
Steelers wouldn’t want to give the Chiefs another weapon when they have their number past two years
Eric
Why would they not? You just said it yourself. They have beaten KC enough to not fear them
George
Bryant has an extra year on his deal as well
Ryan
Recent years is different than this year, game was too close to get swung by a new weapon for KC
Eric
We have to see if KC even wins their division. Steelers have no fear for them. I would see if this was NE.
Kansas City Chiefs
Ryan
Same thing with the Redskins having the eagles numbers in recent years, new Eagles weapons, different result
Eric
That’s two totally different contrasts
Sayre
What about Martavis to the Jags?
George
That makes more sense
Sayre
I mean, why not for them at this point?
George
Unless Coughlin says no
Eric
Coughlin would say no…. He’s that old school kind of guy
George
He did take Odell
Sayre
Plaxico Burress, Odell though
Ryan
I think you’severely underrating the chiefs
Josh
How about any Raiders rumors? They need so much more consistency at WR
Eric
I’m not underrating the Chiefs. What I’m saying is Pittsburgh has an improved defense and they feel that they can beat any team in the AFC. Including one they have beaten three times in the past two seasons
Pittsburgh Steelers
Sayre
The Raiders should make a move to get a back. A real running back
Eric
Raiders are fine on offense. I’m worried about their secondary come playoff time
Ryan
You can feel like you can beat any team, but giving up an untapped potential to your biggest competitor is different
Eric
KC is not their biggest competition….
Ryan
Now we’re splitting hairs
Andrew
Lions? Just throwing it out there with Tate injured
Eric
Ngata for Bryant straight up? Probably not.
Sayre
Hmm…. Interesting given the ties Ngata has to the division, but could they pull it off financially?
Yeah that was just a scenario tossed out. Probably a late round pick thrown in there somehow.
Andrew
If Kenny Golladay breaks out then they wouldn’t need a guy like Bryant
Eric
I do think Bryant in KC is huge. I do think the Chiefs are probable AFC contenders. I just don’t think Pittsburgh fears them.
Andrew
Even though I think it would be a bad idea to trade him to a big AFC opponent like the Chiefs when the Steelers just edged them out this year. Bryants fit with the Chiefs seems like the best of the possible teams

For the Chiefs, it’s a move I think that will clearly stabilize them as AFC contenders. From Pittsburgh’s standout, I think they are quite confident that they can allow him to go there and still win the AFC.
Ryan
I understand your point but why would they do that? Big Ben has a year or two left, why make a contender better?
Shawn
Might as well add my two cents on Martavis Bryant too. Can see the Steelers trading him to the Giants for a conditional draft pick just to spite him the way the Patriots traded Jamie Collins to the Browns last year.
Eric
With their OL being so inefficient, I’m not sure they need to waste a pick on a rental like Bryant. They need OL starters and depth.
