Nick Chubb, RB, Georgia

I hear the cries now, “What! A running back in the third round! But we have Zeke?”. This is very true. Ezekiel Elliott had a phenomenal rookie season, leading the league in rushing yards with 1,631, and helping the Cowboys to a 13-3 record. While 2017 hasn’t started the same way, Zeke remains the workhouse of this running game and should wear a star for a long time. However, that doesn’t alleviate the need to add younger, more talented depth behind him.

More from NFL Mocks

Darren McFadden is on his last leg, and Alfred Morris isn’t the same player he was when he was a rookie. While Rod Smith flashed in the pre-season, he hasn’t done much since. Looking ahead, I see Smith sticking around, but I can’t say the same about McFadden or Morris.

Nick Chubb was a monster coming out of high school and seemed ready to take over Georgia once Todd Gurley left for the NFL. While he certainly flashed his ability during his freshman campaign (1,547 yards, 14 TD’s), a knee injury early in his sophomore year was devastating. He’s done a nice job bouncing back, rushing for 1,130 yards and eight touchdowns as a Junior.

As long as he remains healthy, he would be a fantastic pairing for Zeke. He is a physical back with breakaway speed and can step in should Zeke ever miss time. A trio of Zeke, Chubb, and Smith would truly give the Cowboys a three-headed monster.
