Chicago Bears: Power Ranking John Fox Replacements
By Erik Lambert
#4: Mike McCoy (OC, Denver Broncos)
It’s beginning to look like Mike McCoy wasn’t the actual problem with the Los Angeles Chargers. They’re still the same by-the-skin-of-their-teeth team they were during the final couple years under McCoy as head coach. Each of their last two victories were nailbiters against two of the most struggling teams in the league. They’ve consistently played up and down to their competition. At 2-4 they’ve done nothing to prove that all their problems lay with McCoy.
Meanwhile the 45-year old has landed softly in Denver. So far he’s done an admirable job in improving the Broncos offense. They were 27th in 2016. Currently they rank 12th despite ongoing consistency issues with Trevor Siemian. Perhaps the most notable improvement in their running game, which was 27th last year and is now 9th. McCoy is a proven offensive mind who’s never had a unit ranked lower than 23rd and that unit had Tim Tebow at quarterback. He’s only 45-years old too. A second chance might be worth exploring.
