The Los Angeles Chargers did not get off to the start that they were hoping for in 2017. Now they’re desperately playing catch up in the division.

Given how strong the Chiefs and Broncos have been to this point, their week six games against the Oakland Raiders could be do-or-die for their entire season. So it probably wasn’t the greatest news hearing that Derek Carr would be returning from a back injury that kept him out last week. Thankfully that’s not the only bout of good health news that bouncing around.

Seems Chargers 1st round pick Mike Williams is finally ready to make his season debut according to Adam Schefter and others.

This is great news for quarterback Philip Rivers. To this point the Chargers have had a top passing offense, piling up 266 yards per game. The problem has been they can’t seem to get into the end zone. Through five weeks they’re only averaging 19 points per game. That isn’t going to cut it. Especially not with the defense getting trampled on the ground for over 160 yards every week. This team needs to score and Williams can help with that.

Williams brings an element of size to the equation for Los Angeles. Not just in terms of height but also body mass. He’s a big receiver and plays like it. One of his greatest attributes coming out of Clemson was an ability to consistently win 50/50 situation. He was excellent at high-pointing the ball and outmuscling defenders for it. Rivers doesn’t have anybody like that, which was a big reason he was drafted.

Together with Keenan Allen they could become a formidable tandem the undermanned Raiders defense may not be able to handle.
