The Philadelphia Eagles traded essentially nothing to get Tim Jernigan from the Baltimore Ravens, who has played at an elite level…
The Baltimore Ravens were in the business of dumping good players this offseason, specifically in trading away defensive tackle Tim Jernigan to the Philadelphia Eagles.
In the first five games of the season, Jernigan has been dominant from the nose tackle position for Philadelphia, enhancing an already excellent defensive front.
The Ravens traded Jernigan along with a compensatory third round draft pick to the Eagles in exchange for a third round pick. The Eagles pretty much just traded down in the third round to get a starting defensive lineman, one who was a former high draft pick with a boat load of talent.
In a contract year, Jernigan is making himself a boat load of money as well.

Jernigan has been one of the most productive run defenders in the NFL this season, per Pro Football Focus. His reel here against the Arizona Cardinals is a major reason why.
It’s also probably a big reason why this team felt the need to go out and get Adrian Peterson in a trade, desperate for some sort of spark in the running game. Jernigan was responsible for destruction in the middle of the line in their game this past weekend, and he’s been in the thick of things the entire year.
It’s not often Ozzie Newsome gets fleeced by another general manager in the NFL, but this is a case where Eagles general manager Howie Roseman performed highway robbery. Jernigan didn’t appear to be a draft ‘bust’ with the Ravens by any means, and clearly had only slightly tapped into his talent.
This is a player becoming a star before our very eyes, and playing alongside the likes of Fletcher Cox and Brandon Graham among others on that Eagles front has helped him tremendously.
His production so far this season has been outstanding, and I have a feeling he’s only going to continue to get better.
