The first quarter mark of the 2017 NFL season is in the books and it seems like the race for the playoffs is fairly clear for most teams.

Of course this is pro football and it’s never wise to make that assumption. Not with 12 games left to play for most. Crazier things have happened in this league. A team starting out dead only to come alive and reach the post season has happened before. It’s a matter of questioning whether any of the teams who fit that profile could possibly do it.

This will be an exploration of that. Each last place team in their respective divisions will be assessed and determined whether they have what it takes to pull something so rare off. Of course one must start with the perennial losers of the past decade.

Cleveland Browns (0-4)

Things just aren’t clicking for the Browns right now. Their decision to start rookie DeShone Kizer, while understandable has hampered their offense in many ways. His problems with turning the ball over being a big one. Throw in the fact their defense lacks creativity and a consistent pass rush and it’s a recipe for losing games. Could the return of Myles Garrett give them some juice? It’s possible but they’re going to need a lot at this rate. Odds:  10%

Miami Dolphins (1-2)

Going after Jay Cutler was always a desperate endeavor but he’s far from the only problem with that Miami Dolphins offense. They ran the ball so well last year and suddenly have lost their ability to do so. Add in Cutler’s different style and lack of chemistry with the receivers and not even the steady coaching of Adam Gase was going to fix it. Despite that the division isn’t out of reach. Buffalo leads things at the moment, but how long can that last? Odds:  20%
