2018 NFL Draft quarterback rankings: Mason Rudolph rising
This performance against Colorado is definitely not Rosen’s best performance to-date, but you can still see in this one why he should be considered a favorite — or among the favorites — for the first overall pick next Spring.
Here’s the main reason why I think Rosen is the most ‘pro-ready’ of this year’s quarterback class:
Among every quarterback I am studying right now, the game seems to be slowest for Rosen. What I mean by that is, he doesn’t get antsy in the pocket, he stays calm under pressure, feels the rush around him, and makes every single throw.
Rosen will certainly try to make throws other players wouldn’t because of the talent he has in his arm, but for the most part, he’s not reckless with the football just because he feels he can be. He’s got a confidence about him right now where he just always looks poised on the field.
There’s a drive at the end of this game vs. Colorado, where UCLA is up by one point, and Rosen calmly drives the team down the field into field goal range, taking a lot of time off the clock. He may have finished with just one touchdown in this game, but that long drive was worth the victory, and showed Rosen’s pro-readiness to me.
This guy is going to be a good professional, and it won’t take him long to transition at the next level.
