2018 NFL Draft: Lamar Jackson leads QB stock up, stock down
Mason Rudolph is a polarizing player in the NFL Draft community.
Some feel like he could be the best QB prospect in this year’s draft, while some have actually compared him to Bryce Petty.
That’s just rude.
I think for the type of athlete that Rudolph is, there are a few things that really stand out to me about him.
1. He has excellent pocket presence and escape-ability.
In fact, he may be the most refined prospect in this regard, currently. He’s not Lamar Jackson in terms of athleticism, obviously, but Rudolph is excellent at getting out of trouble in the pocket and keeping his eyes downfield, always looking to make a play.
2. Rudolph throws an excellent deep ball.
The first touchdown pass he throws in this game is of the highest quality. It’s the perfect amount of touch and velocity, and as a result, James Washington gets behind the defense for six points.
Unfortunately in this game, we see some things that are very uncharacteristic of Rudolph’s game, with a low completion percentage and a bad strip sack early on.
Though there were some dropped passes and tough breaks in this game, I think it was overall a decent performance by Rudolph and an unfortunate early season loss for Oklahoma State.
As for his NFL Draft stock? I think Rudolph showed scouts in this game the type of touch he is capable of placing on balls deep downfield, as well as his ability to get out of the pocket and make plays.
