Scot McCloughan (Free agent)

Another name who was curiously dismissed by his former team out of nowhere. It was speculated for weeks that Scot McCloughan was fired by the Washington Redskins because he’d experienced a relapse in his prior alcohol issues. However, later reports hinted that jealousy and politics in the front office led to the team firing him, spearheaded by Bruce Allen. It’s no coincidence that McCloughan called him a “politician” on Twitter shortly afterwards.

Nonetheless it’s hard to argue with the mans’ track record. With his help the 49ers added pieces like Patrick Willis, Joe Staley, Frank Gore, and Vernon Davis. Then when he joined the Seahawks as a senior advisor they had their epic run from 2010 to 2013 that netted the likes of Richard Sherman, Kam Chancellor, Bobby Wagner, Earl Thomas and Russell Wilson.

He was instrumental in making the switch to Kirk Cousins at quarterback for the Redskins. Not only that but he added Pro Bowl guard Brandon Scherff and playmaking receiver Jamison Crowder. For whatever reason, likely playing for two owners noted for being difficult, he hasn’t been able to stick anywhere.
