The Cincinnati Bengals are in trouble. A team that has hung together for several years is suddenly starting to come apart at the seams.

One could say they really haven’t been the same since that backbreaking defeat at the hands of the Pittsburgh Steelers in the playoffs last January. They never looked like the consistently good team they were before that despite still having a wealth of talent. The once invincible aura of Marvin Lewis is fading quickly but no one is drawing more heat than quarterback Andy Dalton.

Once a three-time Pro Bowler, he’s since fallen off a cliff in terms of production. Clearly the losses of Jay Gruden and Hue Jackson as offensive coordinators had a hand in it. Truth be told at age 30 his physical capabilities have peaked. Considering they weren’t that great to begin with, odds are it’s not going to get better for him. Seems some Bengals players are already sensing that and have a solution in mind.

Buzz in locker room growing for signing Colin Kaepernick

Mike Freeman of the Bleacher Report was surprised when he was contacted by a player from the Bengals about the subject of controversial free agent Colin Kaepernick. He soon found out that a buzz had percolated in the Bengals locker room about the talented but polarizing QB. If nothing else that sent a loud and clear message about Dalton.

"“It was a few months ago, during training camp, as the Colin Kaepernick story grew, that a player for the Bengals wondered in texts to me: What if we brought Kaepernick to Cincinnati? The messages came from a defensive player. He meant no disrespect to the Bengals’ current quarterback, Andy Dalton. He was merely wondering aloud and didn’t go much further than that.Fast-forward to this week, and Pro Football Talk reported that Kaepernick’s name has come up in the Cincinnati locker room.Would the Bengals sign Kaepernick? Hell no.But do players there like him? Absolutely. And there are some that would like Cincinnati to sign the controversial, unemployed Kaepernick. That is the truth. All this leads to our main point: Dalton is in trouble. And so is his head coach, Marvin Lewis.”"

It’s proof positive that players aren’t dumb. They recognize a situation when it’s right in front of their eyes. For the good of the team they’ll keep quiet about it, until the losing starts. Cincinnati is 0-2 and still has yet to score an offensive touchdown. Though they may not harbor hatred for Dalton, their patience with him over the year may finally be wearing out.
