2018 NFL Draft, quarterback stock report: Sam Darnold on the rise
A week after his epic performance against Ohio State, Baker Mayfield gets a much needed respite against Tulane, and he did his thing with four touchdown passes on just 17 completions.
Surprisingly, Mayfield had 10 incomplete passes in 27 attempts in this game, but there’s no doubt he was effective when he completed the ball and he showed an ability again in this game to make some big time throws on the run.
I continue to be amazed at people who underrate this kid. Of course, he’s playing in an offense that is very friendly to his skills. He has been since he was a freshman at Texas Tech. But how can you not love this kid?
He started off his college career as a walk-on for Kliff Kingsburgy at Tech, and was the team’s opening day starter as a true freshman. How often does that happen?
Four years later, he’s a Heisman favorite for the Sooners, and has them in position to compete for a national title.
His pre-draft story will be absolutely fascinating to watch.
