2018 NFL Draft: Quarterback stock report, week two
Stat Line: 27-of-35, 386 yards, 3 touchdowns
I may like Mayfield more than some projecting to the next level, but I don’t think anyone could deny how impressive he was against the talented defense of Ohio State this past weekend.
Mayfield was running for his life a good number of snaps in this game, which you can see here:
Some have compared Mayfield to Johnny Manziel, and you can see why in the way he sometimes looks like he’s playing schoolyard football. I think if you want to make a negative projection to the next level like that, it’s a bit unfair considering even NFL teams thought Manziel had a high enough ceiling to be a first round pick, right or wrong.

The biggest questions Mayfield will have to answer are off the field for me. Is he going to be the type of guy teams can rely on as a leader?
I think if he progresses and becomes the best version of himself as a quarterback, he can be similar to a Russell Wilson. At this point in his college career, we haven’t seen Mayfield operate a pro-style offense like we had with Wilson. Mayfield is in an offense where he gets rid of the ball fairly quickly, but when it comes to making something out of nothing and getting the ball from A to B, this guy is phenomenal.
Mayfield usually has excellent ball placement, and through two games he’s completed nearly 84 percent of his passes. I think he’s an instinctive player and the way he was able to stay poised throughout this game against Ohio State was a big test for his NFL prospects moving forward.
