2018 NFL Draft: Quarterback stock report, week two
Stat Line: 25-of-38, 335 yards, 4 touchdowns total
Mason Rudolph is a very interesting player when projecting to the next level. This was the type of play that gives me confidence he can be a starter at the next level sooner rather than later:
With Rudolph, my biggest knock for him has been the number of short-area, quick passes he gets off. When you look deeper into the numbers however, he ‘s been one of the best quarterbacks in the country pretty consistently at throwing deep downfield and throwing under pressure.
There are a lot of myths about quarterbacks in high-volume passing offenses, but one thing they are going to all need to figure out is how to quickly adjust to pressure at the next level, and what to do when the first read is taken away.
Rudolph will short-arm throws at times deep downfield, where James Washington (a star receiver and legit NFL prospect) will bail him out but it’s not like that can never happen at the next level.
This is a player who seems to have good enough arm strength and while he’s not Patrick Mahomes in that regard, he can definitely make all the tough NFL throws with his great sense of timing.
