Indianapolis Colts a train wreck with Scott Tolzien as QB
Indianapolis stood no chance with Scott Tolzien under center
Colts quarterback Scott Tolzien came into week one expecting to start for a couple of weeks while Andrew Luck’s shoulder heals. That’s an unfortunate reality for Colts fans as Tolzien stunk up the join in Los Angeles against the Rams.
The 30-year-old quarterback went 8/19 with two interceptions, a fumble, and four sacks taken in the season opener Sunday afternoon. Both of Tolzien’s interceptions were returned by Los Angeles for touchdowns, one by Trumaine Johnson and the other by Lamarcus Joyner.
Head coach Chuck Pagano would eventually bench the veteran in favor of former Patriots draft pick Jacoby Brissett, who promptly completed a 50-yard pass on his first attempt.
It was an abysmal performance by the Colts in a blowout 49-6 loss to 31-year-old head coach Sean McVay that culminated in 225 total yards of offense.

Colts owner Jim Irsay and the rest of the Indianapolis front office and coaching staff did a disservice to their franchise and fan base by starting Tolzien this week. Knowing Luck was coming off shoulder surgery it behooved them to find a capable backup heading into training camp.
Irsay said Colin Kaepernick was not discussed by the organization as a potential short-term replacement to Luck, which is beyond belief. Even if Kaepernick was not an option for the team an answer better than Tolzien was certainly an option.
Dipping into the market as deep as David Fales, Brandon Weeden, or Matt Barkley would have been more respectable than Tolzien.
