Kansas City Chiefs vs. New England Patriots: Five takeaways from the Chiefs’ win against the Patriots. Which players stood out in the season opener?

1. Alex Smith was excellent

Something got into Alex Smith in the Kansas City Chiefs’ ___ against the New England Patriots. It was a version of Smith we’ve not really ever seen before.

He was — dare I say — great. Excellent.

Smith was taking some shots downfield, and he was picking apart what appeared to be one of the worst Patriots defenses I have seen in some time.

Smith sort of used this game as a big middle finger to all of his critics. One of the most stunning statistics from this game was that Smith engineered three scoring drives of 90-plus yards. He accomplished that once in the entire 2016 season.

It wasn’t like Smith came out in this game like a gunslinger, but it was a definite change of pace from what we’ve become used to.
