Jacksonville Jaguars: Allen Hurns Trade Destinations
By Erik Lambert
The Jacksonville Jaguars remain somewhat of a befuddling teams and their most recent news has done nothing to change that.
Here’s a team that, on paper, looks to be among the more talented in the AFC. By rights they should be poised for a playoff run. Instead they look every bit like the perennial loser they’ve been for a decade now. Blake Bortles is an utter disaster. Their offensive line remains weak and prized 1st round pick Leonard Fournette is battling a bad foot.
Now word is filtering out that a shakeup could be coming to the roster. Wide receiver Allen Hurn had a difficult 2016 season. After going for 1,000 yards the year before, he barely topped 400 last year. He missed five games with a hamstring injury. Since then the team came under new management with Tom Coughlin and his status on the roster is in doubt. Reportedly his $40 million contract isn’t being looked on favorably and there’s a buzz he could be traded.
Allen Hurns possibly being saved for trade move
It seems insane that Hurns could be considered for a trade at this point. He’s 25-years old and two seasons ago posted his first 1,000-yard campaign. Doing so with Bortles at quarterback should only enhance his prestige, right? Apparently not. The prevailing belief is the Jaguars are hoping for draft compensation but don’t expect to get much in return for him. So if they are serious, which teams could possible make a run at him?
Cleveland Browns
Normally it’s wise to look at the teams that have a ton of picks to spare first. Of course the Cleveland Browns stand out after their bevy of trades the past two years. Also they have a young quarterback in DeShone Kizer who may be in position to get the starting job. Getting him as many weapons as possible certainly must take priority for the Browns. Hurns, with that 6’3″ frame, would be most welcome.
Buffalo Bills
Quite honestly given their QB situation, the Buffalo Bills need all the wide receiving help they can get. Anquan Boldin just retired. Jordan Matthews is their primary options while Zay Jones is a rookie. They don’t have a lot of credibility at the position right now. Adding somebody like Hurns would at least give them that in spite of his difficult 2016.
Chicago Bears
This is the dark horse of the group. The Chicago Bears are inching ever closer to making Mitch Trubisky the starting QB. While doing so, they’ve discovered that a lot of questions remain at wide receiver. Cameron Meredith, Kevin White, Kendall Wright and others have a lot of proving left to do. There’s no guarantee it’s a group that can help shoulder the burden of a rookie quarterback.
