Chicago Bears: 5 Players Who Lost Their Jobs In Week 2
By Erik Lambert
There are still two preseason games left to go. The Chicago Bears have a ton of evaluation left ahead of them before cuts are made September 2nd.
That beings said, even after just two games there are a number of key names on the roster who can consider their stocks in the toilet. This of course means one of two things. Either they’ll lose their starting job or they could even lose their roster spot. For some maybe even both. That’s the cruel reality of the NFL. Jobs are won and lost in the space of a couple weeks. It’s why some of the longest lasting players are often the hardest workers.
So who should be fighting for their life in the next fortnight?
Jeremy Langford (RB)
It’s hard to keep a job when you’re not on the field. Jeremy Langford might end up getting cut by default. He’s been nursing an ankle problem since training camp and still hasn’t fully recovered. In that span the rest of the Bears running back depth chart has begun to shine. Tarik Cohen is becoming a favorite for primary backup. Meanwhile Ka’Deem Carey and Bennie Cunningham offer far more special teams value. Langford may be out of time to save himself.
Daniel Braverman (WR)
For a time it looked like the 7th round pick might be the next great slot receiver. Unfortunately Braverman just never found a way to get going as a rookie. This year was made that much more difficult when the Bears signed a bevy of new faces in Victor Cruz, Markus Wheaton, Kendall Wright and Tanner Gentry. All of whom have performed better in practice and preseason. His roster status already on life support, the botched onside kick in Arizona may have ended his hopes.

Mitch Unrein (DE)
The seasoned veteran has remained reliable for the Bears over the past two years and looked good in the first week of preseason. Then injury struck. Forced to sit out the trip, fans watched as Jonathan Bullard, Jaye Howard and Roy Robertson-Harris all emerged during the game. Suddenly the Bears defensive line looks deeper than expected. Not only could Unrein lose the starting job, but his roster spot may well be in jeopardy too.
Jonathan Anderson (ILB)
It became clear after a time that Jonathan Anderson is not a starting inside linebacker. That said he played well enough to prove he can be a solid backup. This is the role he’s played for two years. Not for much longer though. While he’s remained quiet in his chances on the field, fellow reserves John Timu and Christian Jones have made their fair share of nice plays. Anderson is a try-hard player but he’s battling from behind at this point.
Adrian Amos (S)
Odds are his roster spot should remain safe for now, but Adrian Amos is fading as the starter on defense. His continued inability to make any sort of impact play wasn’t going to keep him on top forever. Now rookie Eddie Jackson is poised to take his place after strong back-to-back weeks. His ability to play coverage is undoubtedly the deciding factor in this battle. Unless Amos can come up with the first interception of his career soon, he’s on his way out.
