Chicago Bears: Current Status of the 2017 Draft Class
By Erik Lambert
Eddie Jackson (4th Round)
The same line passed through the coaching ranks from John Fox to Vic Fangio. Eddie Jackson has the type of ball skills that can make him a star in the NFL. Size, speed, hands, intelligence and instinct? He has it all. The one thing they aren’t sure about to this point is whether he has the aggressive mentality for tackling. That’s a pretty important job for safeties, so it was made clear he won’t see the field until they’re comfortable he isn’t a liability in that regard.
So they must’ve liked what they saw when Jackson stuffed fellow rookie Tarik Cohen for a loss during drills at Soldier Field. Granted it was a small sample but still a sign that the young defensive back wasn’t afraid to stick his nose into the action and make the play. If he can continue to do more of that during the preseason, there is a realistic possibility that he’ll swipe the starting job opposite Quintin Demps come opening day.
