The Chicago Bears know that 2017 expectations for them are low. Most are predicting another down year and that 2018 should be their time.

Of course don’t tell the coaches that. They are confident that with a bout of good health they have the roster needed to make a go at the playoffs. The fans certainly hope that’s true. If not though, odds are the 2018 draft will be viewed as one of the most important in a decade. The draft that may decide if their rebuild over the past four years will yield any fruit. That’s why it will be important to not get cute with their picks.

1st Round

OLB. Kansas. Dorance Armstrong Jr. . 1. player. 57. People should not fool themselves about the state of the Chicago Bears pass rush. It’s talented for sure, but also unreliable. Pernell McPhee is dealing with yet another knee issue. Willie Young is 32-years old. Lamarr Houston is coming off a torn ACL. Leonard Floyd is their best player and even he has health concerns. The depth is precarious at that position and it’s somebody they have to fix.
Thankfully the 2018 class seems ready to provide with a number of intriguing talents. Chicago has had success drafting out of Kansas in the past (see Gale Sayers) and Dorance Armstrong is creating a lot of buzz. His mix of size, length and athleticism make him an ideal fit for a 3-4 outside linebacker spot. His 10 sacks and 20 tackles for loss last year prove that he doesn’t take a lot of plays off.
