Dak Prescott Compared To All-Time Great by Charles Haley
By Erik Lambert
Charles Haley has a long history of saying things that other people might not say. It’s just part of his personality. He doesn’t fear speaking his mind.
It’s why a lot of people respect him. That being said, there are times his bold statements drew some backlash. No doubt that was the case with his most recent statements. Appearing on DFW’s NBC 5, Haley was asked about new Dallas Cowboys sensation Dak Prescott. No doubt a standard question. After all Haley is a Hall of Famer who got to play with some of the best quarterbacks in NFL history. So his opinion would be interesting.
Undetered by the moment, he went straight for the big fish. Not only did Haley compare the second-year upstart to a great quarterback, but arguably the greatest ever.
"“You know what? Dak reminds me of Joe [Montana],” Haley told Newy Scruggs of DFW’s NBC 5. “He’s funny. He’s charismatic. They had something to prove. They had a chip on their shoulder. That meant the more I’m around him, he has so much confidence…“He came from nothing, like me. So guess what? What can you do? How can you hurt someone that came from nothing, that had to pull himself up from the bootstraps and walk out on the stage wearing that star on his head and go? What can you say? What can you do?”"
Haley is qualified for that statement, like it or not
Never mind the backlash he’s certain to get from San Francisco 49ers fans who will find the comparison ludicrous and way too premature. There are also those who will claim Prescott is nothing like the type of player Montana was. Of course they would be spouting off opinions. Meanwhile Haley played with Montana, and Steve Young and Troy Aikman. Maybe this guy knows a thing or two about what great quarterbacks look like.
If nothing else this comparison should thrill Dallas Cowboys fans. Further proof that their team may have hit the jackpot.
