2017 NFL offseason: Five most underrated player moves
2017 NFL Offseason: Taking a look at five of the most underrated moves in the NFL this offseason, including the Dolphins’ trade for William Hayes…
The NFL offseason is always full of unexpected twists and turns, but it’s the moves that not many people hear about that often turn out to be some of the best ones. Let’s take a look at five of the most underrated moves in the NFL this past few months, moves that could pay a huge difference in the success of their respective teams in 2017…
1. Dolphins trade for DE William Hayes
I was perusing through team depth charts, looking for interesting storylines, and I came across the Miami Dolphins, and noticed they had traded for defensive end William Hayes.
Of course, I remembered that they made this move back in March, but the price the Dolphins paid to get Hayes (a sixth rounder for Hayes and a 7th) is unbelievable given his current ability.
Hayes isn’t a guy that’s coming in and getting the Dolphins 15 sacks by any means, though I suppose you never know. However, he’s still one of the most effective players at his position at defending the run.
Hayes has the type of mental toughness coaches love in defensive linemen, and he provides an all-important anchor on the edge in the Dolphins’ base defense.
Combined with the trade of a seventh round pick for Julius Thomas, the Dolphins made out like bandit in getting some valuable veterans this offseason, essentially getting both Thomas and Hayes for the difference between a sixth and seventh round pick.
Not bad.
