The Chicago Bears are focused on getting their 2017 draft class in order, but that doesn’t mean they aren’t already looking towards 2018.

In truth that looks like the year where they could end up making their move towards contention. By then their young defense will be maturing and Mitch Trubisky should assume the starting job at quarterback. At that point it should be about putting the finishing touches on an up-and-coming roster. Whether it will involve a new coaching staff? That’s impossible tell. Even so, here’s how the early rounds could play out under the current expectations.

1st Round

Notre Dame. Mike McGlinchey . 1. player. 57. A few things to keep in mind here. Mitch Trubisky is on the roster now. If the Chicago Bears are going to make a run with him at the top, it starts with keeping him protected. That means high quality offensive linemen. Especially a left tackle. Charles Leno Jr. remains a work-in-progress and is also a free agent going into 2018. So the odds are pretty good that GM Ryan Pace may be enticed to seek out help at that position.
Mike McGlinchey has a chance to be the best in the upcoming class. He was already good in 2016 at Notre Dame, but decided to return for another years. So he should emerge from school next April with loads of polish and experience. He’s a big kid with good strength on the ground but the necessary long arms and quick feet for pass protection. Throw in his intelligence and versatility and this is an easy pick.
. OT
