3. Dan Marino (Pittsburgh, PA)

As the 27th pick in the 1983 NFL Draft, Dan Marino had his draft stock drop due to an underwhelming senior season.  He was drafted behind five QBs- Ken O’Brien, Tony Eason, Todd Blackledge, Jim Kelly, and John Elway.  Marino unseated the incumbent starter in week 6 of his rookie season, and didn’t relinquish the opportunity.  He set multiple rookie QB records and was named the NFL Rookie of the Year.  He never looked back after winning the job, being named to nine Pro-Bowls, seven All-Pro teams, and he won the NFL MVP in 1984.

Joe led the league in passing yards and TDs on multiple occasions, really setting the bar high for a league transitioning to pass first offenses.  He finished with 61,361 passing yards, 420 TDs, and was inducted into the Hall of Fame in 2005.  Unfortunately, the lack of a Super Bowl always lingers over the prestigious career he had.
