4. Chuck Bednarik (Bethlehem, PA)

 

The first overall pick in 1949, “Concrete Charlie”, Chuck Bednarik was known as one of the games’ best tacklers.  He was the last full-time two-way player in the NFL, playing both linebacker and center.  He was the most important players for the Philadelphia Eagles in their Championship wins in 1949 and in 1960.  For his tremendous play on both sides, he was a ten time All-Pro, eight-time Pro-Bowler, a member of the 75th anniversary team, a member of the 1950s All-Team. 

His number 60 was retired by the Philadelphia Eagles and he is a member of the Philadelphia Eagles Hall of Fame.  In 2010, Bednarik was named the 35th Greatest Player of All-Time, according to the NFL Network’s “Top 100: NFL’s Greatest Players”
