8. Mike Ditka (Carnegie, PA)

As a legendary NFL coach, Mike Ditka’s spectacular playing career seems to be put on a back burner.  After being drafted 5th overall in 1961, Ditka was the NFL Rookie of the Year in 1961.  He was one of the first true pass catching Tight Ends, catching 58 passes in his first season, including 12 TDs.  Ditka was selected to five straight Pro-Bowls and All-Pro teams from 1961 to 1965.  He was an NFL Champion in 1963 and won Super Bowl VI.

He was named to the 75th Anniversary Team and his number 89 was retired by the Chicago Bears.  He was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 1988 due to his ability to catch passes and be a brutal blocker.
