Top 10 Greatest Players from the State of Pennsylvania
10. Curtis Martin (Pittsburgh, PA)
To start off the top Pennsylvania born players, Curtis Martin’s career was started by the Philadelphia Eagles signing Kevin Turner as a Restricted Free Agent. The signing of Turner gave the New England Patriots the draft selection to choose Martin in the third round of the 1995 NFL Draft. Martin came into the NFL with a bang, rushing for 1,487 yards and 14 TDs in his first season, earning himself the NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year. He never looked back after his first season, rushing for 1,000 yards in ten consecutive seasons. He started 119 consecutive games, broken by a knee injury that ultimately ended his career. Martin finished with the fourth most rushing yards of all time with 14,101.
On top of his NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year Award, Martin was named to five Pro-Bowl teams, two First-Team All-Pro Teams, and one Second-Team All-Pro Team. His number 28 was retired by the New York Jets and he was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 2012.
