The Buffalo Bills can never seem to catch a break. Not only have they not made the playoffs since 1999, now they’re being blamed for other things.

Specifically the rise of The Kardashians, the family that has become a reality TV sensation over the past decade and something people are increasingly desperate to see die in a pit of flames. So how do the Bills connect with them at all? Well it turns out there is a crazy history behind that and it was explained in a recent new NFL meme making the rounds on social media. At first the story seems fairly straightforward.

That’s when things get crazy.

Wow. The O.J. Simpson draft story has always been a fascinating one. It was a tight race towards the end of the 1968 season for which team would get the #1 overall pick to draft him. It looked like the Philadelphia Eagles were a shoe-in. They’d lost their first 11 games that year and seemed almost certain to go winless. Then, when there was nothing left to play for, the team suddenly found unity in defiance and won two-straight games.

This opened the door for Buffalo. They had a win and tie on their record but didn’t make the mistake of winning down the stretch to finish 1-12-1. Barely edging out the Eagles who finished 2-12. The Bills got the #1 pick and Simpson went on to become a six-time Pro Bowler and Hall of Fame inductee. Eagles fans are still angry about that, though in fairness the team still could’ve had a young defensive tackle named Joe Greene but whiffed on Leroy Keyes instead.

As absurd as the entire scenario is, it’s fair to wonder whether life would’ve gone how it did for Simpson had he played on a different team. Not just the Eagles but any team. Would his fate have had a far bright outcome? There’s no way to know for sure.
