Bradley McDougald could be very underrated FA signing for Seahawks
The Seattle Seahawks made a very intriguing signing this offseason, bringing in Bradley McDougald from the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on one-year contract…
The Seattle Seahawks added to their talented secondary this offseason by bringing in Bradley McDougald from the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. It was a very underrated move by the Seahawks, because McDougald is a young safety who was eating up a lot of snaps for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers the past couple of seasons.
After playing about half the snaps in 2014, McDougald became a full-time player in 2015, playing 890 snaps and eclipsing the 1,000 snap mark this past season.
He wasn’t flawless, by any means, but as this video points out, McDougald provides a lot of value to a team like the Seattle Seahawks as a versatile defender that can be an essential part of their nickel defensive package.
As the video points out, McDougald has proven himself a player that can not only blanket tight ends and running backs out of the backfield, but he can also play the deep free safety, strong safety, and up at the line of scrimmage.
He’s a strong tackler from the safety position, another reason he’ll fit in with the Legion of Boom and perhaps even have his best season yet as a professional.

McDougald wasn’t a big time NFL prospect coming out of Kansas, but he’s developed into the type of player that a great defense like Seattle can utilize to perfection. In his two seasons as a full-time starter, he’s averaging nearly 90 tackles and two interceptions per year, along with a career high 10 pass deflections this past season.
He took a one-year free agent deal, which seems odd given his age, production, and versatility. He’s only counting $2 million against the Seahawks’ cap, which is an absolute steal and the main reason why he is one of the most underrated free agent pickups this offseason.
It’s moves like this that keep the Seahawks in contention, and a perfect move to make in case of injury as McDougald can spell either Kam Chancellor or Earl Thomas on the back end while providing a valuable nickel and dime defensive back.
