There is no argument that Derek Carr is on track to become one of the best quarterbacks in the NFL for a long time presuming he stays healthy.

The Oakland Raiders feel the same way, having already inked the Pro Bowl star to a massive new $125 million contract including $70 million in guarantees. With his financial future taken care of, Carr is free to focus on his number one goal, which is leading the Silver and Black back to the Super Bowl. He never got the chance last season after tragically breaking his leg right before the team entered the playoffs.

So they decided to take steps in helping to curb the risk of that happening again. Their solution? Signing retired former Pro Bowl running back Marshawn Lynch. The man knows as “Beast Mode” spent the 2016 season off after hanging up the cleats the year before. He’s an Oakland native and always wanted to play for his hometown team. So he came back to embrace the opportunity when the team came calling.

Carr is excited about the idea of using him to balance the offense and said so in a recent interview. Of course not without jabbing the Seattle Seahawks in the process.

"“My No. 1 goal is that I’m going to make sure that I give everything I have to this organization,” Carr told reporters Friday at a news conference announcing his new contract. “There’s no pressure, there’s no, you know, we’ll be on the 1-yard line and I won’t give it to Marshawn — I’ll throw it. There’s none of that stuff. I don’t care about the stats. That’s not my No. 1 objective. I don’t care if I throw 10 touchdowns next year. If we win every game, that’s all I care about.”"

Never forget

Just further proof that nobody is going to let the Seahawks live that moment down. They have an All-Pro at running back in Lynch. It’s 2nd down with a timeout in their pocket. All they have to do is give him the ball. If he doesn’t get in, they take the timeout and craft the next play. Instead they got cute and threw the ball, Malcolm Butler intercepts it and the rest is history.

Carr is making it clear he has no intentions of going down in similar infamy should he ever get that same opportunity. Based on the progress he and the Raiders have made the past couple years, that chance may be coming sooner than people think.
